Opening Bell: Spinach, Cheese, Pork, Plants!

Good afternoon!

Spring has sprung! I’m getting excellent reports from our growers about early crops ready to be harvested. Spinach, onions, asparagus, lettuce, radishes, turnips, etc. The mild winter and abundant rain means lots of local vegetables will be available sooner than last year. Early shoppers also saw the first cabbage of the year on the extra table Friday!

This week you will also find several options for cut flower arrangements from Bell Urban Farm. Get one for yourself, and one to give to a neighbor or loved one. They will Be beautiful for well over a week.

Save a bundle on a 25 pound box of eggs from Drewry Orchards this week. It is literally a box with 25 pounds of fresh eggs. A pound of eggs is between six and 10 eggs so this is over 200 fresh eggs. Share some with your family and neighbors and they’ll love you forever. ! We have egg cartons so you can package them into dozens right at the market. Deviled eggs, boiled eggs, omelettes, quiche, fried eggs, poundcake. The possibilities are endless!

Several varieties of cheese are now available under the dairy section.

At Cedar Rock Ridge this week, I divided my scarlet Beebalm, horseradish, and comfrey plants, so they are now available well-rooted and ready to grow in your garden. In about two weeks, we will have orange marigolds, yellow marigolds, and vinca plants in 4-packs available. Marigolds placed around your garden attract pollinators and deter pests. With marigolds, more is better. Lemongrass plants will also be ready soon!
