New Grower! Opening Bell: Shiitakes, Sweet Potatoes, Squash!

Good afternoon!
We are pleased to announce a new Grower for CLG. On Saturday, I inspected Healthy Flavors Arkansas, a large, new growing operation in south Conway. Shane Lindsay has been working hard to install season-extending high tunnels where he currently has several hundred tomato plants. While we are now at the end of a growing season, Shane is planning on producing lots of spring vegetables for us, all certified naturally grown. He also has some brassicas which should produce before winter. His list for next year includes green onions, tomatoes, peppers, kale, carrots, and more. He has the energy and know how to make it happen. We hope to have Shane at the market this Friday so you can meet him and ask any questions about his operation. He may also bring some kale and tomatoes so come early for the best selection.

This time of year there aren’t many blooming flowers in the garden for our pollinators. Luckily, Goldenrod is just now starting to bloom. Goldenrod is a perennial that has bright gold plumes of flowers. Consider adding this perennial somewhere in your garden for late season nectar for pollinators.

We’ve been having a lot of excellent items on the extra table lately. Earlier shoppers get the best selection. We are normally ready for customers to start arriving around 3 PM if you happen to be out and in the area. Just text me to see if we’re ready.

Be sure to SEARCH for your favorite items using the search field. Four instance, type in the word “sale”and see what pops up. We have over 425 items available now!

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

Opening Bell: Shiitake Mushrooms, Sweet Potatoes, Coffee, Honey!

Good afternoon!
Late this week we should finally see more seasonal temperatures. I shared that news with my hens this morning, and, maybe it’s just me, but I would swear I could see smiles on their little beaks, except for Buttons, who gave me the stank eye.

There are fewer available eggs right now because many chickens are molting, which means they are losing their old feathers and making new feathers. When this happens, the new feathers require calcium so no eggs are produced for several weeks. What emerges Is a well-rested hen who is ready to get back to producing 4-7 eggs per week.

Check out the awesome selection of locally roasted coffee now available from RoZark Hills Coffee Roasterie. Did somebody say coconut rum coffee? Yes, please.

Opening Bell:

Good afternoon!
We are ecstatic at Cedar Rock Ridge, as our organic garlic has won a 1st Place blue ribbon, and BEST IN SHOW at this year’s Faulkner County fair. Even more amazing is that this is the second time in three years it has won best in show. Out of the hundreds of entries, the judges saw something extraordinary in the garlic. We think it’s pretty special too and will be offering potted garlic plants again this year so you can experience this amazing and un-named strain of garlic in your own gardens. Only $1 per plant.

If you are out in the woods much, you may catch the passing scent of ripe persimmon fruit. Carissa and I collected about 30 this afternoon, and she baked delicious persimmon tart for dessert. Persimmon has a delicious flavor and creamy texture that should be experienced during the short season.
