Good afternoon,
How much of your food dollar goes to the farmer or grower? When you buy a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs, or some squash, how much of that money makes its way back to the producer? I’m reading “The Locavore Way” now and was surprised (no, shocked), to find that only about 19 cents of every food dollar goes to the producer! The rest is eaten up by marketing, processing, packaging, transportation, etc. On the other hand, 87 cents of every dollar spent at Conway Locally Grown goes to the producer! Eat fresh. Eat local.
