Greetings Conway Locally Grown Community,

The SSAWG Conference in Little Rock was a tidal wave of information and ideas that I have not even begun to process, but I did get to meet Eric Wagoner from Athens, Georgia – the man who invented the Locally Grown web program. Eric is sort of a jack of all trades; he’s involved in software development, online farmers’ markets, theatre, and astrophysics. A big guy who rarely smiles while talking, his tree trunk legs and leather boots sticking out from under his utility kilt make him look more like a 15th century Celtic warrior than the social media and tech geek that he really is. Eric runs a paperless market in Athens – he and his volunteers use old iPhones and other wireless internet devices to inventory items, put together orders, and take electronic payment – probably not feasible for us currently, but something to keep in mind down the road. Other SSAWG week highlights included two wonderful local food meals, one at the Root Cafe and one at the conference conclusion. At the “Taste of Arkansas” dinner at the conference conclusion, it felt good just to be in the same room and enjoy a meal with over a thousand of the most innovative and influential southerners working in the local food movement, but Jack Sundell’s fried Falling Sky Farm chicken at the Root Cafe might have been the most delicious thing I have ever eaten. Anyway, more thoughts on the future of Conway Locally Grown are coming, but for now just keep ordering, and tell your friends about us!

The market is now open. Go to conway.locallygrown.net/market to place your order. Hit the checkout button (only once!) when you are finished, and you will receive a confirmation email when your order has been placed.

Thanks and have a great week!
