CLG Changes!

Hello friends!

I need to take a few minutes to update you on some changes starting this week. Last August I received my cancer diagnosis. Carissa and I have worked hard to keep the market open and serving our loyal members but after three failed chemo regimens, I’m physically unable to keep up. For this reason we’ve decided to step back on the daily operations of CLG. Carissa had been doing most of the work for the last few months while dealing with a very uncomfortable old man. She’s been with me for every doctor’s appointment, and there have been many, and I can’t say enough about her compassion and coolness in a difficult situation.

Sandra has volunteered to dedicate herself to continuing the market without interruption and we are so very grateful to have a friend who is just as dedicated to the local food industry as we are. Sandra and Ashley will alternate as cashiers in February. You’ll also continue to see our friendly volunteers each Friday. Without their willingness to work for you on a Friday afternoon, we couldn’t have served you these last 14 years.

I won’t get all drawn out, but Carissa and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your families grow up: weddings, babies, walking, graduations…we’ve seen a lot of living, and you’ve seen our kids and three grandkids interacting with other kids. So proud of Fisher who’s only 4 but opens the doors when our Growers are carrying heavy boxes laden with local goodness bound for your kitchens.

Thank you for your constant commitment to quality food.

Steve and Carissa

It was 70° yesterday, but struggling to make it to 30° today. The birds sure noticed the difference and are hanging around our suet feeder. I’ve seen Cardinals, nuthatches, downy woodpeckers, tufted titmice, black capped chickadees, and I think I saw a penguin. We will have about 20 suet cakes on the extra table this Friday for only $1 each. Ours last about a week. Stock up for all winter.

It’s still time to put some elephant garlic plants in the ground for harvest next June. All you need is a small site that gets about 6 hours of daylight. You CAN grow elephant garlic. Try it! Limited quantity available. Try Egyptian walking onions too! Nice well-rooted plants ready to be transplanted into your garden or flower bed.

Please wear a mask when you pick up your ordered items. Thank you. We will also continue contactless delivery to your vehicle on Fridays for those interested, just call or text 501-339-1039.
