Tamales! Opening Bell: Beef, Eggs, Honey & Coffee!

Hello friends!

After more than 200 days underground, the amazing organic garlic from Cedar rock Ridge is being hoisted from the earth! Some people say I use exclamation points too freely. That may be true, but only to emphasize all the good things happening in the garden. Garlic! The whole-body health benefits of using fresh garlic are well documented in dozens of nutritional studies. Fresh garlic has things that dehydrated garlic doesn’t. You should crush fresh garlic and add it to your meal right at the end of the cooking process.

Tamales!
Pork, chicken or jalapeño & cheese.
Five for $7. All same kind.
At market this Friday, May 21st.
Text me your order.

Opening Bell: Eggs, Honey, Coffee!

Hello friends!

Chickens and ducks are laying like crazy! This week you’ll find a dozen small pullet eggs for only $1.15. Those are great for making pickled eggs. And Funny Farm has large eggs for only $3.25 a dozen.Think of all the delicious dishes you can make with local farm fresh eggs: deviled eggs, egg salad, quiche, boiled eggs. You could even have breakfast for dinner sometime this week. And don’t forget to do some baking. Oh, I just thought about coffee cake with lots of cinnamon. I’m making myself hungry! Check out the wide assortment of coffee listings this week.

We should start seeing new varieties of produce every week now. I’m ready for some zucchini. We will probably start harvesting our organic garlic in another week or two. It’s not too early to start thinking about stock piling wickles. When the pickling cucumbers are ready, I will start making 24 pints of those life-changing emerald jewels each week. For our new members, wickles are some wicked hot dill pickles bursting with garlic, dill, and hot pepper flakes. I just opened another jar yesterday and the crunch brought tears to my eyes. That’s a great pickle!

Tamales! Opening Bell: Chard, Honey, Plants, Carrots!

Hello friends!

On Saturday morning the 4th annual plant sale hosted by Bell urban farm was a huge success! It was great to see hundreds of people coming out to get plants for their gardens. Over 1500 plants left our table in less than two hours, but I kept some back at Cedar rock Ridge for this week’s market. If you need marigolds, basil, or Cherokee purple tomatoes, act fast before they’re gone.

The garlic beds are looking very good right now. The plants are just starting to bulb so we should be digging and curing them early June.

Strack Farm says their asparagus is still doing well. Get it while you can! And the carrots from Rattle’s Garden are amazingly flavorful and crisp. Great for stirfry or broiled. Spinach, Turnips, Swiss Chard, Lettuce and Kale are also available. There’s some wonderful spring eating right there! Food is medicine.
